Algobiente - Multichannel Concert Series

The Algobiente multichannel live coding concert series is a series that, as of 2025, has seen seven editions, all being held in the Antic Forn de Vallcarca, typically in fall.

It's an opportunity to give more people a chance to play on multichannel setups that are otherwise so locked-in in the academic world. It started out as an 8-channel concert, but has been growing recently. The challenge here was to find a setup that can be easily set up and broken down within less than an hour, to make it compatible with more underground spaces such as the Antic Forn.

It started out with random speakers I had collected over the years, but sparked my interest in loudspeaker building. Inspired by the amazing Ottosonics project, I started developing portable multichannel setups.

Another idea behind the series is to give space to the more quiet, ambient-oriented live coding styles that I felt were a bit underrepresented with the growing popularity of algoraves. Historically, electronic dance music and more relaxed styles went hand in hand. Algobiente is, in fact, a contraction of algorithmic and ambiente, and also means "something good" in (not quite correct) Spanish. Thus, the styles of music being played at an Algobiente concert are typically oriented towards soundscapes, drones, or pure waves.
